Director of Development and Marketing
SUMMARY
The mission of The Arc of Litchfield County, Inc. (LARC) is to work cooperatively with others in developing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their maximum level of independence, experience community presence and participation, make decisions about their lives and their futures, and live with respect and dignity.
The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for building and enhancing LARC’s position in the community, while advancing LARC’s mission, vision and guiding principles. Responsible for leading and implementing a fund development strategy and activities for a successful fund raising and public relations program, the Director performs the following duties personally or through appropriate staff, volunteers or interns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development
With the Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors, establish clear guidelines to cultivate and solicit major gifts; inject energy and organization into annual giving; shape designated giving programs; cultivate new prospects; identify private and business donors, pursue planned giving opportunities and position other leaders of the organization to solicit major donations.
Develop and manage aggressive short term and long-term fund-raising strategies that supports the operating, capital and endowment objectives of the organization. Personally drive fundraising cultivation and solicitation activities, develop fundraising alliances, maximize revenue from current sources of philanthropy, appeal to individual and institutional donors, and lead and direct any and all fundraising efforts.
Work with program staff to develop funding related projects. Implement a grants program to secure funding for those projects, including relationship building with key funders, preparation and submission of grants and all follow-up requirements.
Implement donor recognition and appreciation activities. Develop and manage a volunteer base for special events and related activities. Focus on retention of current donors utilizing the donor database with a plan for specific “touch points” throughout the year.
Supervise the maintenance of a donor database, perform donor analysis, and research current and potential donors.
Marketing, Public Relations, and Other
Develop and implement comprehensive outreach and public relations strategy that supports the fundraising efforts. This includes, but is not limited to supervising the preparing and distribution newsletters, press releases, maintaining social networks and providing updates for the fundraising web pages.
Serve as an ambassador of the organization, living its vision and values and contributing to its brand and image, through activities such as public speaking engagements. Attend business, civic, and other meetings/events; help represent LARC at trade associations such as The Alliance and Arc CT; may serve on boards and commissions.
Advocate on behalf of individuals with disabilities and their families by communicating with local legislators, hosting legislative forums, and coordinating with municipal, governmental, and community leaders.
Actively participate in and help plan Board Meetings; serve as member of LARC leadership team.
Assist the Executive Director with assigned projects, some administrative and confidential duties. Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the Executive Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development and Marketing supervises a part-time Development Assistant and fundraising volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred
Degree in related area of non-profit management, marketing, communication, p/r, etc.
3-5 years development experience; knowledge of Litchfield County community is preferred.
SKILLS
Willingness and ability to travel, work flexible hours, including some evening and weekends
Excellent oral, written communication and professional presentation skills
Ability to work with outside consultants, managing multiple activities
Advanced computer knowledge, including database management (DonorPerfect), Microsoft Office, and online platforms (Weebly, Facebook). Knowledge of graphic programs (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop) preferred.
Creative, flexible self-starter with energy, attention to detail, project management skills, highly organized and sense of humor
Ability to promote a culture of philanthropy
Team player with ability to relate to people and a variety of volunteers
Ability to multi-task

Valid Connecticut Driver’s License; good driving record required
