Advocacy

LARC defines advocacy as facilitating, promoting, representing, supporting, advising, communicating and mediating. The staff of LARC provide advocacy through meetings, forums, role modeling, participating in community life and through relationships.

  • Referrals to generic/external resources, i.e., BRS, other agencies, doctors, etc.
  • Participation at planning meetings.
  • Internal referrals to services i.e., departments, committees, Administration, etc.
  • Advise consumers of rights i.e., legal, guardianship, SSI, entitlements, taxes, etc.
  • Encourage advocacy relationships i.e., community advocates, etc.
  • Advocate for inclusion in school, work, training, recreational opportunities, etc.
  • Advocacy for families of persons with disabilities.
  • Administrative advocacy i.e. for agencies, disability groups, public awareness, systems advocacy, legislation, local public forums.
  • Support self Advocacy initiatives
